Maureen FitzSimons's achievements as a child performer in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would be a sure signification for her to the child-prodigy class. As a person with Irish origins, who was surrounded her by talented parents and family, this came naturally. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on August 17, 1920, at Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was young and became very good at them. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent of performing. It was evident by her winning pretty much every Feis award for drama or performances in the theater that her nation offered. At age fourteen, she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
